Open Data

The connectivity challenge cannot be solved in isolation. Giga is committed to open-source principles as the foundation for sustainable, equitable connectivity. By using and advocating for both open data and open-source software, we ensure that governments, researchers, and communities can collaborate towards innovative solutions.
Giga collects, creates, and shares open data that allows for advocacy, connectivity planning, and implementation that leads to more opportunity, information, and choice for learners across the globe. Open data allows stakeholders to work together to uncover insights and design new solutions. It reduces duplication of effort, strengthens accountability, and ensures visibility for unconnected schools. When the data is open, the opportunity to act is open as well. Giga Maps is the world’s most comprehensive open data set of school locations and connectivity. Explore our APIs to access our open datasets.
Giga utilizes and builds open-source software to ensure that our solutions can be adapted, maintained, and owned by governments, communities, and partners. Openness means transparency in how our technology works, the flexibility to meet needs in local contexts, and sustainability that lasts beyond any single project or country. By keeping our core tools open, Giga creates a collaborative ecosystem where improvements are shared, trust is built, and progress is accelerated.
Giga welcomes collaboration with researchers, open-source communities, and civil society organizations who can use our data and software to advance connectivity and digital inclusion. Whether applying open data for research, extending our tools, or designing new solutions, we invite partners to join us in building public goods that close the digital divide.
