In 2025, Giga strengthened its support to governments across five core areas. Infrastructure mapping and modeling was completed in 9 countries, and engagements were underway to map and m odel schools in 21 other countries.
Behind the data are real stories of change. In Sri Lanka, students who once climbed trees to access a signal are now learning in connected classrooms. In Botswana, more than 700 schools are connected, reaching over 400,000 learners.

Why school connectivity
matters
Globally, 2.2 billion people remain offline, and digital inequality continues to widen, shaped not only by access, but by affordability, quality and digital skills.
For millions of children, this gap begins at school.
When schools are connected, they become gateways to opportunity, enabling digital learning, supporting teachers, and connecting communities to the wider digital economy. Giga works with Governments to ensure connectivity reaches every school, and is sustained as part of national systems.
