In Central Asia, we are working with the governments of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan to structure procurement processes to connect the remaining unconnected schools affordably and improve quality of service.

On 12 March 2019, Turkestan, Kazakhstan, Akaru (8 year), 3-d grade pupil of middle school at Turkestan. She usually plays with her 3 sisters. She loves Kazakh language, mathematics and literature, and likes reading. On 13 March 2019, UNICEF and the Health Administration of the Akimat of Turkestan Region opened a new Resource Center for Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) where thousands of nurses, doctors and social workers will receive training to improve their professional competencies in the field of early childhood development, nutrition and safety in line with the recommendations of UNICEF and WHO. The center plays a key role in the introduction and implementation of a universal-progressive model of nursing care for pregnant women and families with children. The universal progressive model aims to improve the health and well-being of mothers and children in Kazakhstan. The novelty of the model lies in the integrated and comprehensive approach, in which specialists from different fields - health care, education and social services - join forces to provide comprehensive assistance to families and children. In 2016-2017, this model was successfully implemented in two clinics of Kyzylorda and in the village of Zhanakorgan by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, UNICEF and the Akimat of Kyzylorda Oblast. Based on Kyzylorda experience, since 2018 the government has been scaling up the model throughout the country.
