Giga Community Manager, Blockchain Initiatives

Summary

We are seeking an experienced, dynamic Community Manager to join the Giga team. The Community Manager will develop and nurture a vibrant open-source community centered around blockchain technology for UNICEF Giga’s initiatives. Additionally, the Community Manager will work closely with Giga´s technical and project teams to foster collaboration and enhance knowledge sharing that supports Giga’s goal of connecting every school to the internet.

Your main responsibilities will be…

1. Community Engagement

  • Develop and execute strategies to engage and grow the open-source community focused on blockchain technology for UNICEF Giga’s initiatives.
  • Proactively communicate and interact with community members through various channels, such as forums, mailing lists, social media, and events.
  • Cultivate a supportive and inclusive community culture that encourages active participation, respectful dialogue, and collaboration.

2. Community Development

  • Identify and attract potential contributors, developers, and stakeholders who share an interest in blockchain technology and its potential for social impact.
  • Facilitate the onboarding process for new community members, providing guidance, resources, and support to help them get involved.
  • Organize and lead community events, workshops, webinars, and hackathons to promote knowledge exchange, skill-building, and collaboration.

3. Collaboration and Coordination

  • Foster collaboration among community members, facilitating connections and encouraging the sharing of ideas and expertise.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external partners, and other blockchain projects to align community efforts with UNICEF Giga’s objectives and promote cross-collaboration.
  • Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships and joint initiatives to further the adoption and utilization of blockchain for social impact.

4. Content Creation and Documentation

  • Develop and curate educational and informative content, including blog posts, tutorials, case studies, and documentation, to engage the community and promote blockchain understanding.
  • Contribute to the creation of resources that support community members in their use of blockchain technology and its applications in UNICEF Giga’s projects.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation and knowledge bases to ensure easy access to relevant information and best practices.

5. Feedback and Reporting

  • Gather feedback from the community, monitor community activities, and act as a bridge between the community and UNICEF Giga teams.
  • Analyze community metrics and provide regular reports on community growth, engagement, and impact to internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to incorporate community feedback into the development and improvement of UNICEF Giga’s blockchain initiatives.

To qualify for this position, you will have…
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business development, engineering or a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in community management, preferably in the context of open-source projects and/or blockchain technology.
  • Strong understanding of blockchain principles, decentralized technologies, and their potential for social impact.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and connect with diverse stakeholders.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience organizing and facilitating community events, such as meetups, hackathons or conferences, focused on blockchain technology.
  • Familiarity with agile project management methodologies and tools, such as Jira et al.
  • Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team.
  • Passion for global connectivity, digital learning, and the use of emerging technologies, particularly blockchain, for positive social change.
Payment details and further considerations
  • Payment of professional fees will be based on the submission of agreed deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.   
  • Consultant is responsible for his/her own health and travel insurance.
  • Consultant is responsible to arrange his/her own travel, including visa.
How to apply
  • Interest applicant is required to submit a financial proposal with all-inclusive fee. 
  • Financial proposal must include travel costs (economy class) and daily subsistence allowance, if travel is required as per TOR and any other estimated costs: visa, travel/health insurance.
