Giga will participate in Mozilla Festival 2025 taking place in Barcelona between November 7–9. On November 7th, we will host a workshop on the topic “Unlearning Traditional Maps: Reimagining the World Beyond Borders.”
Traditional maps often prioritize borders, terrain, and infrastructure, overlooking the social, economic, and digital layers that shape people’s lives. This session invites participants to challenge these conventions and explore new ways of visualizing connectivity, opportunity, and inequality.
Using Giga Maps, our open and live map of global school connectivity, participants will explore how data visualization can be a tool for storytelling and advocacy.
The workshop combines ideation and rapid prototyping, encouraging participants to experiment with alternative mapping logics—such as organizing maps around networks instead of borders or highlighting relationships rather than territories. By the end, participants will have created “unlearned maps” that reframe how we see space, context, and connection.
Join us for an enriching session!
