Everything You Need to Know About Giga
What is Giga?
Giga is a global joint initiative of UNICEF and ITU supporting governments to connect every school to the Internet turning education into a gateway for access to
What does Giga do
Giga extends support in four areas: school mapping, infrastructure modelling and cost analysis, financing and contracting. This support is anchored on capacity development (which supports all the other areas).
First, we map the schools to gain insight of the needs.
Next, we analyse the current infrastructure, identify infrastructure gaps and associated costs, and provide a connectivity plan.
Then we develop financing options to advise the government and provide procurement support.
We also provide a range of opportunities to strengthen capacity of stakeholders on best practice and our tools and services.
Our approach is there is no one-size-fits-all in solutions. We work with Ministries of ICT and Education, ICT regulators and universal service agencies, to develop unique solutions to the local challenges of school connectivity.
